The Benefits of Enzymes
Enzymes are involved in every aspect of our bodies. They break down the food you eat so your body can absorb the nutrients. Used topically enzymes digest dead skin cells. They also capture free radicals and prevent further damage caused by pollution, bacteria, and sun exposure.
The enzymes used at Helen’s Haven are derived from fruits, vegetables and more. Each enzyme has a unique beneficial activity. From removing dead skin cells, to helping with acne, enzymes break down the bad while building up the good processes of the skin. By stimulating the skins normal activity enzymes can help nourish, rejuvenate, and refresh the skin. Enzymes also aid in the penetration of other products.
Helen’s Haven offers two different enzyme peels that may be added onto any facial.
Pineapple Peel: Can be used on even sensitive skin. The pineapple peel is $12.00 offered only in addition to any facial.
Pumpkin/Multi-Fruit Complex Peel: Pumpkin products offer antioxidants and enzymes that act like alpha-hydroxy acids. Rather than just stripping the skin of unwanted materials, the pumpkin products have a bonus of replenishing the skin with nutrients. Pumpkin reportedly contains more than 100 beneficial nutrients which may be used to help reverse the signs of aging.
The following concentrations are contained in this peel:
- Lactic acid . 28 – 32%
- Glycolic acid . 12 – 17%
- Citric acid . 2-6 %
- Malic acid. 1%
- Tartaric acid. 1%
The primary action is their keratolytic ability. They weaken bonds that hold dead skin cells together. When these bonds are weakened, the dead cells can be shed from the surface of the skin, resulting in skin that appears fresher, smoother and younger.
One Pumpkin Peel treatment: approx. 15 – 30 minutes $25.00, includes face, neck and décolleté. Series of six Pumpkin Peels - $125.00.
Skin Peels
Facial peels are topical acids and ingredients applied to the face to encourage increased circulation, hydration, and cellular turnover. Many people take it for granted that the use of glycolic acid as a daily product or chemical peel must result in noticeable redness, dryness and flaking. This is not necessarily true now that buffered glycolic acid products are on the market. Buffering takes the acid and increases the pH without changing the percentage concentration. Buffering does not make it any less effective. Exfoliation takes place in a less visible manner. Your skin will appear smoother, softer, more supple and youthful. With these treatments your skin is stimulated to behave like younger, healthier skin. Those painful peels are peels of the past! Your Certified MediEsthetic Specialist will recommend the appropriate skin care regimen to help you achieve the skin nature intended you to have.
These peels address the following conditions and concerns:
- Acne-prone skin*
- Rosacea8
- Hyperpigmentation*

These consist of AHA's, amino acids and enzymes. Your MediEsthetic Specialist will choose the peel that is best for your skin. Level I peels are safe for any skin type. Level I peels will address hyperpigmentation. Level I peels can be done as often as every other week.
Level II Peels: $150.00
Level II peels are not for everyone. They are deeper peels that reach the lower levels of the skin. There are cautions and specific home care products that are required before performing Level II peels. Contact your MediEsthetic Specialist for more information.
Dermaplaning: $150.00
During dermaplaning, the skin's top layers are removed through a method of controlled scraping of the skin with a Teflon ® coated blade. Quick and completely painless, dermaplaning removes layers of dead skin and softens surface irregularities, giving the skin a smoother appearance. It also temporarily removes all facial hair.
Dermaplaning is typically performed every 3-4 weeks. Patients generally experience a little redness immediately after the procedure which fades quickly and is easily covered by makeup. The result is incredibly smooth and soft skin! Dermaplaning is done right after a Level I peel is performed.
