Summer Care For Lash Extensions

There are so many events to attend in the summer from weddings to graduations to pool parties – you name it, and you’ve probably got an invitation to it. With all of the heat and humidity that’s likely to be around as well, a great way to get lashes without the risk of a smudge is to opt for lash extensions. Here are a few tips to keep in mind that will help you maintain that perfect look for as long as possible.

Even though you may be tempted to take a dip, don’t do it for at least 24 hours after your new lashes have been applied. Check with your aesthetician because some adhesives need even longer to set properly. So don’t even get them wet in the shower or when washing your face, and avoid saunas or activities that will make you sweat until you know it’s safe. Then, brush through them gently after getting them wet to help them keep their shape.

Oil-based products are also a no-no. Oil can degrade the adhesive causing your extensions to fall off much sooner than they would otherwise. Check the ingredient lists on eye creams and eye make up removers as well as any crème shadows that you’re using, too.

Be gentle with your new lashes. They will typically stay put for four to six weeks if you treat them nicely – avoid rubbing them, and try to keep them away from heat sources like blow dryers and flat irons. Near the end of their lifespan, you may notice that they begin to fall out. Don’t worry, but also don’t pull at them. If it gets really frustrating, you can try removing them at home by placing your face over a bowl of steaming water for 10 to 15 minutes, and follow that up with a sweep of a cotton ball dipped in olive oil.
