IPL – Another Approach to Skin Care

There are a number of ways to get and keep your skin looking its absolute best, and one of the least invasive is IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light. This therapy is especially helpful for those of us with damage that’s the result of overexposure to the sun, one of the potential drawbacks of living here in Paradise. Here’s a quick rundown of what is involved in the process, and what you can expect for results.

Using a laser, or IPL device, your aesthetician will focus on any discolorations on your skin. Sun spots, those brown age spots, rosacea and noticeable veins are prime targets. The light from the device passes right through the surface of the skin focusing on the problem areas. The trouble spots are broken up and absorbed by the body, making them less visible on the surface.

Most people will require a series of three to five treatments spaced from three to six weeks apart. Each session may take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes, and after each treatment you’ll see more and more improvement. During the treatment, you may experience a tingling sensation, which will become less noticeable with each appointment.

Your appointment will progress something like this. You’ll be given eye coverings to protect you from the laser, and your aesthetician will apply a cool get to the area of skin being treated. The IPL device has a smooth glass surface that will glide over your skin emitting pulses of light. After the treatment is complete, the gel is wiped off and the area is cleansed with a warm cloth. The final installment is a moisturizer with sunscreen.
